Dominated by charming cottages and rows of well maintained two and three storey Victorian terraced houses on wide, tree-lined streets, this is one of Hammersmith’s most sought after areas. Brackenbury Village also benefits from a superb Zone 2 location, just half an hour into the West End and a short bus journey to shopping nirvana at Westfield.
As an alternative to old world charm, a former industrial estate bordering fashionable, Brackenbury Village, has set the standard for contemporary living, on Goldhawk Road. It has been transformed into an open courtyard complex of 64 mews houses, townhouses, luxury apartments and loft offices for creatives. The developer, has opted for modernist-style architecture — restrained, with cube-like brick elevations — perfectly complementing the surrounding Victorian terraces. The neighbourhood has well regarded local primary schools, excellent secondary schools close by, smart restaurants, gastropubs, a park, easy access to the Thames and riverside activities.
Ravenscourt Park, located close to the tube station, is a generally considered by the locals as a hidden secret garden, unseen by the usual hubbub on the main street. Refreshingly calm and green, with the added benefit of tennis courts, a bowling lawn and numerous activity areas for children. There is also the desirable option of a scenic walk or a cycle along the river Thames.
The name of the area came from Brackenbury estate agents descriptions, the addition of ‘village’ came about in large part to the strong sense of community here, which is rare in most parts of London. "Everyone is very chatty, very friendly and we all know each other," Brackenbury Village property owners enjoy all the benefits of a village, yet with easy access to the hustle and bustle of Central London and the City. Brackenbury Villagers love the fact that the area is ‘half the price but twice as nice as Notting Hill’. It is proving very popular with more and more families moving west - not only because it’s cheaper, but because it has excellent schools.
Additional shopping and leisure facilities are located along King Street, Chiswick High Road, Hammersmith Broadway and Westfield London (located in Shepherds Bush). There are a wealth of excellent local restaurants and gastro bars within easy walking distance (notably The Anglesea Arms on Wingate Road and Raoul's on Hammersmith Grove) as well as numerous bars located along the Thames.
The Brackenbury Village area has one of Britain's best all-girl schools, Godolphin and Latymer School and the highly publicised Toby Young's West London Free School, John Betts School on Paddenswick Road, Brackenbury Primary and Flora Gardens Primary on Dalling Road.
Brackenbury Village, W6, has excellent transport facilities, including the following underground stations Hammersmith (Hammersmith & City and Circle lines) and Hammersmith Broadway (Piccadilly and District lines). Within the Hammersmith Broadway centre there is also a major bus depot providing services to the north east, south and west. For the motorist, the main arterial roads include the A(M)4 and A(M)40 providing easy access to Heathrow and further West as well as into central London.
